Online marking
Online marking is one way in which the exam marking system is being modernised and has been judged by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as successful.
Students' scripts are scanned by computer and then sent electronically to examiners for marking.
At present, most online examiners mark individual questions, rather than whole papers. You are sent the questions in batches, with the team leader releasing the next batch electronically as the first batch is assessed as satisfactory. Some questions are inserted at random and marked by all examiners to help maintain accuracy.
The online system means relatively little administration for the examiner. You do need a reasonably modern computer, but you may be able to work at a marking centre if you do not have one at home.
